Eddie Reaiche explains how he teaches couples how to waltz when they start working with me. Communication is like a dance – if you’re doing one dance and the other person is doing a different one, it won’t work. But with the waltz, they sync up and learn to communicate effortlessly. It’s as simple as counting one, two, three. Communication is just doing a dance together, both on the same page. That’s what communication is all about.

Monsignor Shora explains that in counselling, people often expect to learn entirely new and unfamiliar concepts. However, that’s not the case. Instead, we encourage using familiar language and modifying it to enhance communication and openness. Let me give you an example: During a session with a couple, I explained that they were essentially having three conversations at once, like different parts of a house. The husband, being a builder, immediately understood and related to this “house model.” It’s about using your own words and making the message clearer, while allowing room for understanding and connection.

Debbie Draybi says the key is to acknowledge the power within us and stay open to our feelings and experiences. It’s crucial to be open with our family, understanding that they might have significant things happening in their lives that we aren’t aware of. Approach them with humble curiosity, giving them space to talk without assuming or judging. It’s okay to be on a learning journey and not feel embarrassed about it. Our loved ones can confirm that we don’t always get things right, and that’s normal. Even our staff and neighbors understand this.
